Hampton, GA – It’s no secret, Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series career hasn’t gone the way he’s wanted it to. Stenhouse, has yet to win a Cup race as he’s winless in 148 career starts. Furthermore, he only has 17 top 10’s in those 148 starts as well. But, 2017 so far is showing that Stenhouse may very well be on the verge of winning his first career Cup race.
In fact, maybe it can come this weekend in Atlanta.
Stenhouse, was fast off the truck on Friday afternoon as he had his No. 17 Ford fifth on the speed charts in the opening practice session of the weekend at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Then, in qualifying later that day, Stenhouse qualified for Sunday’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 (2:30 p.m. ET/FOX/PRN) on the outside of Row 2 in fourth.
It’s been a great weekend so far.
But, if Stenhouse is going to win, he’s going to have to fight a lot of cars in his manufacturer. Ford put three cars in the top five of the starting lineup including winning the pole with Kevin Harvick, and also had four cars in the top six.
Then, in final practice on Saturday, Ford put two cars in the top three on the final speed charts as well.
With also winning the season opening Daytona 500 and having this much speed so far this weekend, it looks like Stenhouse and Fords in general are going to be tough to beat in race No. 2 of the 2017 season too.
