Justin Allgaier Wins DC Solar 200 at Phoenix

Avondale, AZ – Justin Allgaier held off a hard charging Erik Jones on a late race restart and captured the checkered flag as well as the Dash 4 Cash crown in the NASCAR XFINITY Series’ DC Solar 200 at Phoenix Raceway on Saturday.

Allgaier, in his No. 7 Chevrolet, led a race-high 85 of the 200 laps en route to his first win since 2012. The last time the JR Motorsports driver went to victory lane was in Montreal on Aug. 8, 2012, 146 races ago. That’s why this victory was so emotional for him.

The Illinois native only led 37 laps total in 2016, and today, he more than doubles that in winning fashion.

Ryan Blaney finished second in the No. 22 Team Penske Ford. Rounding out the top five were Erik Jones in the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, pole winner William Byron in the No. 9 JR Motorsports Chevrolet and Elliott Sadler in the No. 1 JR Motorsports Chevrolet.

The DC Solar 200 featured three stages with caution flags at Laps 60 and 120. Jones won the first stage after leading 51 of 60 laps; Blaney won the second stage after seizing the lead for the final 10 laps of the stage.

This race also was the first of four Dash 4 Cash races this season, with the Allgaier collecting $100,000 and qualifying for an additional $600,000 for $1 million total. The other D4C races are at Bristol, Richmond and Dover this season.

Byron and Sadler were the two drivers to qualify for Dash 4 Cash from the first stage; Allgaier and Tyler Reddick qualified from the second stage.

The 200-lap, 200-mile race featured 10 cautions and six different leaders.

The red flag came out for five minutes on Lap 191 following Austin Dillon’s wreck after he was spun by Cole Custer. Dillon, his crew chief and spotter were called to the NASCAR hauler afterward when he appeared to track down Custer to force him into the outside wall during the ensuing caution.

Daniel Suarez’s tough start to the season continued when he was forced out of the race on Lap 11 after a flat tire caused his No. 18 Toyota to slam into the outside wall.

The XFINITY Series now travels to Auto Club Speedway for the NXS 300 on March 25 at 4 p.m. ET (FS1, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
