The NASCAR XFINITY Series took to the 2-mile Auto Club Speedway for their lone two practice sessions of the race weekend on Friday. In the first session, Joey Logano topped the speed charts with a lap of 178.904 mph in his No. 22 Ford. The Team Penske driver turned that lap on the first lap that he ran around the D-shaped California oval this morning.
Kyle Larson who’s been runner-up in three straight Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races was runner-up in the first XFINITY Series practice with a speed of 177.344 mph in his No. 42 Chevrolet.
Erik Jones (177.061 mph) was third fastest in his No. 20 Toyota to give each manufacturer a spot in the top three of the speed charts this morning. Paul Menard (176.852 mph) and Cole Custer (176.570 mph) rounded out the top five in the first of two sessions.
Chevy, had eight cars in the top 12 of the speed charts in the first practice.
In final practice, Logano led the way again, this time with a speed of 176.80 mph. Logano, appears to be the driver to beat on Saturday, as he was quickest in both sessions, as well as fastest in the 5-lap average and the 10-lap average speed chart too. That shows he has short run speed plus long run speed as well.
Erik Jones moved up from third fastest in session No. 1 to second quick in final practice with a speed of 176.74 mph. Menard, was third fastest with a lap of 176.59 mph while Brandon Jones (176.47 mph) and Larson (176.04 mph) rounded out the top five in the final session.
All that’s left is qualifying on Saturday morning at Fontana then the 300-mile race later on in the afternoon (4 p.m. ET/FS1/MRN).
