Indiana Gov. Holcomb To Place Green Flag atop IMS Gate 1 Friday To Mark Start of Verizon IndyCar Series Season

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb will officially install the green flag atop the world-famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway Gate 1 at 10 a.m. Friday, March 10. The annual ceremony marks the start of the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season and an important milestone in the countdown to the 101st Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil.

During the event, an official 101st Running milk bottle will be delivered to the governor, part of a series of deliveries leading up to Race Day.

IMS traditionally displays the full array of racing flags atop Gate 1 for the entire Verizon IndyCar Series season. The first race of 2017 is the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on Sunday, March 12 on the streets of downtown St. Petersburg, Florida.
