Avondale, AZ – The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers had just two more chances on Saturday morning from the Phoenix International Raceway to get their cars dialed in for Sunday’s Camping World 500 (3:30 p.m. ET/FOX/MRN).
In the first practice session, Chase Elliott led the way with a speed of 135.977 mph in his No. 24 Chevrolet. Elliott, has had a strong weekend so far as he was fastest in practice on Friday and qualified his Hendrick Motorsports entry seventh for Sunday’s race.
Joey Logano was second on the speed charts in the early morning session with a speed of 135.466 mph in his No. 22 Ford. Logano, qualified his Tem Penske car on the pole on Friday afternoon and that was after being third fastest in practice on Friday.
Kyle Larson (135.323 mph) was third fastest while last weeks winner at Las Vegas Martin Truex Jr. was fourth overall with a speed of 135.206 mph.
Brad Keselowski (135.171 mph) rounded out the top five in the initial session this morning.
In final practice, Logano moved up a spot on the speed charts with a speed of 134.736 mph. He finishes third, second and first respectively in the three practice sessions this weekend and with him starting on the pole, he has to be the favorite on Sunday.
Matt Kenseth was second fastest with a speed of 134.519 mph in his No. 20 Toyota, while Kenseth’s Joe Gibbs Racing teammate of Kyle Busch was third with a lap at 134.399 mph in his No. 18 Toyota.
Keselowski (134.384 mph) and Jimmie Johnson (134.368 mph) rounded out the top five.
