INDIANAPOLIS – The Verizon IndyCar Series may not race again for another couple of weeks, but it doesn’t mean they will be silent until they show up to Long Beach on April 7. The drivers and teams have a bunch of upcoming tests scheduled including on Tuesday of this week when all of them will show up at the Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, Alabama for an open test. This will be just like the open test at Phoenix back in February where all the teams will be able to hit the Alabama road course for intense data.
The one-day test on March 21st won’t be the only test though.
On Saturday March 25, it will be the first of two tests at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Indy 500 testing. The test this weekend will be a “Honda Manufacturer Test” as all four Chip Ganassi Racing cars (Scott Dixon, Tony Kanaan, Charlie Kimball and Max Chilton) as well as both Schmidt-Peterson Motorsports entries (James Hinchcliffe and Mikhail Aleshin) and Graham Rahal with Rahal/Letterman/Lanigan Racing will test at the 2.5-mile oval on Saturday morning/afternoon.
Then, all four Andretti Autosport drivers will hit the road course at Sebring for another team test on March 28 followed by a “Chevrolet Manufacturer Test” at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday, April 1. Taking part in next Saturday’s test at Indy will be Team Penske (Simon Pagenaud, Will Power, Helio Castroneves and Josef Newgarden) Ed Carpenter Racing (Ed Carpenter and JR Hildebrand) and A.J. Foyt Racing (Conor Daly, Carlos Munoz).
That’s not all though as far as testing goes before Long Beach. Since the teams will be heading out west for the race, some will use some of the west coast tracks for testing too.
On April 4, there will be a “Honda Manufacturer Test” at Sonoma Raceway. All the Honda teams will be there as Andretti Autosport (Ryan Hunter-Reay, Marco Andretti, Alexander Rossi and Takuma Sato) Chip Ganassi Racing (Scott Dixon, Tony Kanaan, Charlie Kimball and Max Chilton) SPM (James Hinchcliffe and Mikhail Aleshin) RLL (Graham Rahal) as well as Dale Coyne Racing (Sebastien Bourdais and Ed Jones) will take part in it.
After all of that, they will all hit the track at Long Beach on Friday of that week. Then, on their way back home after, they will stop at the Texas Motor Speedway on April 12 for an open test on the newly configured/paved 1.5-mile oval.
