The NASCAR XFINITY Series took to the 1.5-mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway for their only two practice sessions of the race weekend on Friday. In the opening session, hometown hero Brendan Gaughan led the way with a speed of 182.568 mph in his No. 62 Chevrolet.
For Gaughan, it was a dream session as he has yet to win at his home track, but for the Las Vegas native to be quick out of the gates, it gave him high hopes for tomorrow.
Daniel Suarez was second fastest in his No. 20 Toyota with a speed of 182.402 mph while Joey Logano who’s making his first XFINITY Series start of the season was third overall with a lap of 182.322 mph.
Rookie William Byron (182.242 mph) and Brad Keselowski (181.953 mph) rounded out the top five in the opening session.
In final practice, Joe Gibbs Racing as a whole led the way with taking the top three spots on the speed chart.
Suarez, led the way with a speed of 182.389 mph to make him the easy odds on favorite to win tomorrow’s Boyd Gaming 300 (4 p.m. ET/FS1/PRN). He was second and first respectively today.
Rookie Matt Tifft was second fastest in his No. 19 Toyota with a lap of 182.322 mph while Kyle Busch in his No. 18 Toyota was third fastest with a speed of 182.022 mph.
Logano (181.990 mph) and Brandon Jones (181.824 mph) rounded out the top five.
