Spencer Pigot To Return to Ed Carpenter Racing In Road/Street Course Role

INDIANAPOLIS – One of the last dominoes in the Verizon IndyCar Series silly season is set fall on Tuesday morning. Ed Carpenter Racing will announce that Spencer Pigot will share the No. 20 Chevrolet with Ed Carpenter for the 2017 season in the same role that he had with the team for the second half of the 2016 season at 10 am tomorrow morning.

Pigot, 23, won the 2015 Indy Lights championship and used the $1-million Mazda Road to Indy scholarship to a three-race deal with Rahal/Letterman/Lanigan Racing for 2016. The Florida native finished 14th in his debut at St. Pete and 11th and 25th respectively in both races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May.

That led him to the ride share with Ed Carpenter for the remaining road/street courses in 2016, where he nabbed two top 10’s in seven starts. Pigot, finished ninth at Road America and seventh at Mid-Ohio.

Prior to winning the 2015 Indy Lights championship, Pigot won the 2014 Pro Mazda title with Juncos Racing. He followed the team up to Indy Lights from there where he won a combined 12 races in the two championship years.

In 2013, he was a rookie in Pro Mazda where he came home fourth in the final standings.

Prior to that, he raced is USF2000 where he won 11 races in two seasons in the series with second place finishes in the final standings in both years.

As far as ECR, this will be the third straight year where Carpenter has shared his ride. In 2014, he shared the seat with Mike Conway where Conway won twice that season in this very same role.

In 2015, Carpenter tabbed Luca Filippi as the driver in that role where Filippi came home second at Toronto.

Last year, it was Pigot as he’s the first driver to return in consecutive seasons.
