Alex Tagliani Wins the Pole for Saturday’s X-Finity Series Race at Road America

Alex Tagliani may be making his first start of the 2016 NASCAR X-Finity Series season, but it didn’t stop him from picking up where he left off in his last start at Mid-Ohio in 2015. Tagliani, started on the pole in that race and was one corner away from winning his first career NASCAR race.

Instead, Regan Smith bumped him out of the way in the last turn in August of 2015 leaving Tagliani to a second place effort. This weekend, the Team Penske driver isn’t going to allow anyone to get that close.

The Canadian turned a lap of 109.866 mph in the No. 22 Ford to win his fourth career X-Finity Series pole. Half of them though, have occurred at Road America.

Michael McDowell qualified his No. 2 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet second with a speed of 109.561 mph.

The winner of the rainy race at Mid-Ohio two weeks ago will start third as Justin Marks qualified his No. 42 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevy on the Inside of Row 3.

Two Joe Gibbs Racing cars rounded out the top five as Owen Kelly and Daniel Suarez qualified fourth and fifth respectively.
