INDIANAPOLIS – Spencer Bayston currently leads the USAC Midgets points standings by just 35 markers over second place Brady Bacon. He’s only 39 points ahead of Chad Boat in third, who just won three of the last four Midget races a week ago. Tanner Thorson is 74 points out in fifth. With the standings tightened up and there only being 10 races to go in the 2016 season, four of which races are going to shape the championship contenders from the pretenders next week.
Beginning on Sunday, Aug 14, the Midget drivers begin a swing of four straight races in Pennsylvania beginning at Susquehanna Speedway in York Haven, PA. The four race stretch is titled, “Pennsylvania Midget Week’ in the Keystone State.
On Monday, Aug. 15 the series races at Path Valley Speedway Park in Spring Run. Following that race, they go to Lanco’s Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway in Newmanstown on Aug. 16 while the series concludes the four day action on Wednesday, Aug. 17at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown.
Bayston‘s lone 2016 victory came in the “Indiana Midget Week” opener at Gas City in June. Bacon continues to seek his initial 2016 USAC National Midget win despite “top-10” finishes in all but one race. Boat’s three recent victories, including the prestigious “Belleville Midget Nationals” last Saturday, joined a pair of thirds, a fourth and a fifth.
So, will this championship get tighter leaving Pennsylvania or will Bayston extend his lead.
They will have a little over a month off before the next event at Eldora on Sept. 24 as they then head to Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, ILL for a three day show from Oct. 6-8.
Then, it’s another month off before the finale on Nov. 24 at Ventura Raceway in Ventura, Calif.
