LEXINGTON, OH – Dale Coyne Racing was raving about how great of a test RC Enerson had at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course last week. He had such a good test, he earned his first career Verizon IndyCar Series start with them when they came back to the 2.258-mile track for this weekend’s Honda 200.
In his first two IndyCar practice sessions, Enerson picked up where he left off in last week’s test here. He turned 31 laps in the first session with a top lap of 1:05.5533-seconds in his No. 19 Honda. That was good enough for 21st overall out of 22 cars.
But, in the second session, he really impressed as he was in the top 10 before rain fell with 25 minutes to go in it. Enerson, turned a lap of 1:04.7284-seconds which put him seventh overall on the leaderboard. He was only 0.5322-seconds off Will Power’s top lap of the day, as he has a legitimate shot at some good success for the rest of the weekend.
Even better, Enerson was the second quickest Honda today, as it is an extremely surprising outcome to say the least.
Enerson, won his last two trips to Mid-Ohio, as he won last year’s Indy Lights race and the 2014 USF2000 race. He also came home third as a rookie in the 2013 USF2000 race too.
So, this speed is surprising, but it’s warranted.
He’s a sleeper for a top 10 on Sunday. That would be a heck of a debut.
