INDIANAPOLIS – We have an additional Verizon IndyCar Series entry for the rest of the season, as rookie Spencer Pigot will share the No. 20 Fuzzy’s Vodka Chevrolet ride with Ed Carpenter for the remainder of the 2016 season.
Carpenter, will still handle the oval duties as originally scheduled, but this ride that was only slated for just ovals for 2016. Now, we will see this car on the track for the rest of the season, as the 2015 Indy Lights champion will share the ride with Carpenter for the duration of the year on the non ovals. The Florida native will race at all the remaining road/street events beginning this weekend in Detroit in the No. 20 entry.
Pigot will join the ECR team at Detroit, Road America, Toronto, Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen and Sonoma this season while Carpenter will race at Texas, Iowa and Pocono.
The 22-year old ran three races for Rahal/Letterman/Lanigan Racing this season as he raced in the season opener at St. Pete as well as both races at Indy last month. He finished 14 at St. Pete, 11th in the GP of Indy and 25th in the Indianapolis 500.
Now, he joins Josef Newgarden on all road/street course events as he went from a Honda deal to a Chevy.
Mike Conway and Luca Filippi have split this ride with Carpenter over the last two years as they’ve all had success in doing so. This could be a great step in the right direction for Pigot to eventually gain a full season ride of his own next year.
