BELLE ISLE, MI – Sooner rather than later, James Hinchcliffe is going to find himself back in victory lane during a Verizon IndyCar Series race weekend. The Canadian enters this weekend’s Chevrolet Duals in Detroit on the heels of four straight top 10 finishes as he was eighth at Long Beach, sixth at Barber, third in the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis and seventh in the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 last weekend.
He’s just getting closer and closer.
Today, he qualified his No. 5 Arrow Honda up front again, as he will roll off fourth in Saturday’s 70 Lap race at the 2.35-mile Belle Isle street circuit. It’s not that he’s the quickest Honda yet again, for the second straight race, but today was his fifth straight top 10 qualifying effort and sixth in seven races this year.
That has to be rewarded soon.
How about this weekend?
This strong performance over the last two months has put Hinchcliffe right in the thick of things for the championship. With a fast car this weekend as he was fifth in the lone practice session this morning, the Schmidt/Peterson Motorsports driver could easily win at least one of the two races here this weekend, if not both.
This could be a very solid points weekend for him which could propel Hinch to a chance at winning the title just one year after nearly losing his life.
He’s the story of the year as the consistency keeps getting better and better. I’ve seen this script before as this winds up with multiple victories.
