Conor Daly Qualifies Career Best 9th for Kohler Grand Prix, Confident for Win

ELKHART LAKE, WI – Conor Daly was ecstatic when he got out of his No. 18 Honda on Saturday afternoon at Elkhart Lake. No, he didn’t make it to the Firestone Fast Six, but Daly did advance to the second round of qualifying for the first time of his Verizon IndyCar Series career today at Road America.

He then backed that effort up out of Round 1, and put down the ninth quickest lap in the second round, as Daly will start on the Inside of Row 5 on Sunday afternoon.

That’s Daly’s best starting spot of his career as he said they won’t have to do any magic shows tomorrow to get to the front now.

“I’m actually really pleased, maybe we can like win tomorrow,” Daly said after qualifying on Saturday. “We finally don’t have to do any wizardry stuff tomorrow to get to the front because we’re already there. Now we just have to stay there as our goal is to improve each race weekend.”

Daly’s previous best start this season was 13th at Long Beach as he also finished there back in April. In his three top 10 finishes this year, he started 22nd, 16th and 21st respectively.

Now, he’s up front, and with how good he’s been this year moving from the back to the front, don’t be shocked to see him be in the hunt to win Sunday’s Kohler Grand Prix (12:30 p.m. ET/NBCSN/IndyCar Radio).

This may be Daly’s weekend to earn his first career victory. It’s certainly starting to feel that way.
