INDIANAPOLIS – The only day the Verizon IndyCar Series drivers are on the track the rest of the week outside of the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, will be the one-hour Carb Day practice session on Friday morning. But, despite there being only one day of “on track” action this week, there’s still plenty going on around the town in celebration of the 100th Running.
On Wednesday, is the Indy 500 Community Day at IMS, where it’s a fun filled day for family activities. Then, at night head west to Terre Haute to see the USAC Sprint Car stars race on a 1/2-mile dirt track.
On Thursday night though, is where all the big events start, as there’s a ton going on around the circle city.
There’s the Simon/GQ Fashion Show at the Fashion Mall on the northside of town where drivers James Hinchcliffe, Josef Newgarden and Max Chilton where be featured. The event is open to the public.
Also, there’s the Last Row Party in the IMS Pagoda where the Indianapolis Press Club Foundation will showcase the last row qualifiers for the big race. Proceeds for the event will benefit the Indianapolis Press Club. This party runs from 7-9 p.m. ET.
If you can’t make it to either of these two parties, try heading to the Yellow Party. That’s a racing for cancer fundraiser. The event included a cocktail party and both a silent and live auction taking place in the Bitwell Event Center downtown. This will run from 6-10 p.m. ET.
But, if you still want to see racing, head to the Indiana State Fairgrounds to see the Hoosier Hundred USAC Silver Crown race on the one-mile dirt track.
On Friday, is of course Carb Day, but at night, the party starts going again, as there’s the Carb Nigh Burger Bash hosted by Curt Cavin from 6:30 – 10 p.m. ET in Pan Am Plaza as well as the Maxim Party inside the Pan Am Plaza Pavilion which will feature over 2,000 A-list celebrities and VIP guests. That party starts at 8 p.m. ET.
Again, there’s more racing that night too, this time at Lucas Oil Raceway for the Silver Crown cars racing on the pavement.
Then, on Saturday, it’s the Firestone Legends Day where IMS will host an autograph session for all the drivers including former Indy 500 race winners, as well as a public drivers meeting. After that is the nation’s largest motor racing parade where 300,000+ spectators head downtown Indy for the IPL 500 Festival Parade.
After that, head back to IMS for the Blake Shelton Legends Day concert before heading back downtown for the Snakepit Ball for an elegant night of fund in the Indiana Roof Ballroom from 6-10 p.m. ET.
If you can, add “The Race Party” to your list of things to do as the party will be on top of the Regions Tower the night before the race too.
Overall, there’s no shortage of things to do Wednesday on, as with it being the 100th Running, I strongly urge you all to take this all in.
