Quick, who are the only two drivers to finish inside the top five of both Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis’. Hint, one of the two drivers drives for Chip Ganassi Racing as he’s been the top finisher for the organization in both races on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road courses.
No, the Ganassi driver isn’t Scott Dixon or Tony Kanaan and the other driver to finish in the top five of every race isn’t Will Power, Helio Castroneves, Juan Pablo Montoya, Graham Rahal, Ryan Hunter-Reay or Marco Andretti.
Out of those eight talented names, Charlie Kimball is the only one to finish in the top five of both Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis’.
Kimball, has finished fifth in both road course races at Indy over the last two years, as I wouldn’t be shocked to see him nab a third straight top five in as many years on Saturday afternoon. For some reason, this road course just suits Kimball well, as he’s been the top Ganassi driver each year.
With how solid he’s been this season, with two top 10’s and four top 12’s in as many starts, there’s no reason to believe that he can’t contend this weekend either.
Permanent road courses that are fast and smooth suit Kimball best and Indy is all of that and more.
With previous success here and a solid start to the season, Kimball is basically a shoo-in for another solid effort. But, I think he’s going to be a sleeper to win as he’s due and knows this is a chance to capitalize.
With him coming home third in the Indianapolis 500 a year ago, a solid finish in the road course race this weekend could propel him a big Month of May this month.
