For the second straight year, the NASCAR weekend at Darlington Raceway in September will be a “throwback” weekend. The old school paint schemes debuted last year, when the series returned to the South Carolina oval on Labor Day weekend. The widely popular weekend was a time where most of the drivers in the field ran old school paint schemes paying tribute to past stars.
We already knew that the weekend would return in 2016, but we didn’t exactly know what schemes would be ran.
On Wednesday, Dale Earnhardt Jr. revealed his paint scheme as he will run a tribute to Buddy Baker.
Earnhardt’s No. 88 Nationwide Chevrolet will don the “Gray Ghost” colors that Baker drove during the 1980 season. Baker’s iconic No. 28 Harry Ranier Oldsmobile won the 1980 Daytona 500 with the car also known as the “Gray Ghost.”
Earnhardt will have a very similar paint scheme on Sept. 4 as it will definitely be one of the popular schemes all weekend.
