Last year, Kurt Busch led 291 of the 400 laps in the spring NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at the Richmond International Raceway en route to his first victory in over a year. This year, he returns to the same RIR track in hopes to do the same as Busch hasn’t reached victory lane in nearly a year as his last win came last June in Michigan.
Busch, enters with a ton of momentum, as he has six top 10’s in eight Cup starts this season, including a third place finish at another short track in Bristol last Sunday.
With Richmond being moved to a day race this year and RIR and Bristol being similar short tracks (one is high banked I know), it bodes well for Busch on Sunday afternoon.
In fact, with Busch winning at Richmond during the day last year, he has to enter as the favorite to do so again this weekend.
Busch has four top 10’s in his last six Richmond starts as a fifth is on the horizon this weekend.
Also, dating back to last season, Busch has 12 top 10’s in his last 15 Cup starts. Unfortunately though, he has zero wins in that same time frame, so to say he’s due for a win is an understatment.
Busch has had the cars capable of winning, but he hasn’t been able to pull it off. Maybe this is the weekend he can finally get over the hump and do so, as it could spark a string of multiple wins over the next several weeks.
